This empty house in Brighton has been empty almost forty years. A frustrated neighbour told us the elderly owner has ‘mental issues’ and despite the council obtaining a Compulsory Purchase Order in the mid-nineties, nothing has been done. The neighbour added: ‘The only residents of that damn house are the foxes and rats, who live amongst the rubbish and rubble’.
The city council, which has 13,372 people on its housing waiting list, said the two-storey Victorian house has been empty since 1979. Chester Terrace is one of 933 homes in Brighton and Hove which have been empty for more than six months.
